The Dominican Republic
Map indicates that the island's terrain is generally rugged
and mountainous, the island is known as Hispaniola and it is the
second largest island in the Caribbean, with an area of about
29,979 square miles.
It shares the island
with Creole-French speaking Haiti, most of its eastern region is
characterized by steep valleys and lowland plains.
While Hispaniola is
the second largest island in the Caribbean, the Dominican
Republic is the second largest country in the region, occupying
about 18,700 square miles, featured by four parallel mountain
ranges extending in a northwesterly direction.
